About Me!

Hey, I'm Nic Macdonald, a graduate of Queen's University with a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. Originally from Calgary, AB, I grew up in a family where entrepreneurship and tech were part of dinner table conversations, fostering my passion for creation and curiosity. In high school, I volunteered at a youth crisis and suicide support line, which sparked my desire to help those around me and find solutions to challenging situations. Initially, I aimed to become a biomedical engineer and attend medical school to help people in the purest way I knew. However, during my undergrad, I realized that helping people and solving real problems extended far beyond what I had previously thought. I chose Computer Engineering not to become a software developer but because of the field's wide applicability and ever-changing nature. I knew it would provide a strong foundation for a career of continuous learning and curiosity. I discovered product management almost by accident, but I immediately knew it was the culmination of everything I wanted in a role: complex problem-solving, working with technical teams, aligning with business goals, and constantly driving value. I was fortunate to start this journey with a year-long internship at ecobee, where I learned from some of the best product minds about what high-functioning product managers and development teams look like. Now, I am looking for my next opportunity to contribute, learn, and push the boundaries of what tech can do.

More About Me

In my free time, I love staying active. I grew up in the Rocky Mountains, spending almost every weekend of my childhood skiing, biking, or hiking, so these activities are a constant for me. I also grew up playing rugby, and wherever I land, I hope to find a team right away! Outside of sports, I'm an avid reader of everything from mysteries and educational books to love stories and classics—I’ll read it all. My Goodreads is linked below if you want to see what I'm currently reading. I also care a lot about community involvement. One of my proudest moments was helping to organize ecobee's participation in the 2023 Toronto Pride Parade. These activities keep me balanced and fuel my constant drive.
